by Rob Secker Jun 11, 2008 Today was short. Only 50 miles. It was also our first border crossing. That means race time. There were certain logistic problems with racing to the border. One of which was that the border was only 4 miles from Lindsay, Tx. Not much of a race. It was decided the race would end here in Admore. Trent, Julio, Ivan, Mike and I, shortly after crossing the border, took off at an average 25 mph in a straight line down US 77. I couldn't keep up that kind of pace so I stopped at the first 27 mile rest stop but Trent, Julio and Mike kept on truckin'. I later found out they simply didn't see the van and trailer and didn't stop. After the rest stop I rode with Abby and Scott. We rode through a rolling smooth road that passed through and Oklahoma state park. Once we got to the church that we were staying at a few of us headed out to get some coffee. We found Main street and shortly after that a pretty mom-n-pop coffee shop. Later we wandered into a bizarre store. The owner loves paintball stuff and hot sauce so he sells both. One wall was covered in paintball guns and masks and the other was filled with every type of hot sauce known to man. This guy, the owner, knew everything about hot sauce. I'm sure like every tourist I asked him what his hottest sauce was. Naturally he pointed to the top shelf. There stood a black bottle with a skull for a cap. It was encased in glass for safety reasons. It reminded me of the scene in Anchorman where he gets out his Black Panther cologne. He said it had a Scoville rating (how spicy something is) of 15 million. To put that in perspective a jalapeno is anywhere from 2500 to 8000 Scovilles. It also costs $125 per ounce. But thats not the spiciest thing out there. He said there's a $650 bottle that's so spicy if you breath the fumes it would scorch your lungs. He doesn't carry it in the store because he's afraid he'd drop it and kill himself. It was an intense chat. After that adventure we drove out to a pretty blue lake in that state park and had ourselves a little swim/bathe. We came home to a dinner of home fried chicken and lasagna prepared by parish members. It was a good day.
