About:

Hey! I’m from Katy, TX, just west of Houston, but it took me a while to get there. Born in Salt Lake City, I spent a good chunk of my childhood in Wyoming and Colorado, where I fell in love with Denver sports. Go Broncos! My dad works in the energy field so like a lot of families, we eventually made our way down to Houston. There we stayed until my dad’s job sent us all the way over to Baku, Azerbaijan, a small former Soviet-satellite on the Caspian Sea, which was certainly a culture shock but also an extremely valuable experience. Coming back to the States, despite my prior intentions to go to school out of state, I decided to stay in Texas to attend UT and I could not be happier with my decision. I’m currently a senior at UT, majoring in Plan II Honors and Economics, and after graduation I hope to attend law school.

A little bit more about me. I’m a sports fanatic. If you have a question about sports, I like to think I have the answer. My freshman year, I broke my collarbone playing, of all things, ultimate Frisbee, so now I have a titanium plate holding my clavicle together. I can solve a Rubik’s Cube, which makes for a pretty cool party trick, or at least I think so. Last spring, nine months after having reconstructive surgery on my ACL, I completed my first half marathon here in Austin. I spent a summer living in Granada, Spain with the most exuberant Spanish family, eating lots of paella and chorizo while they made fun of my accent. I’m always looking for the next big thing to try. I’ve been skydiving twice, white-water rafting in Colorado, and jumped off a waterfall in Africa. Texas 4000 is that next great adventure!

Why I Ride

I ride as a commemoration of life. Cancer is a pervasive and unbiased disease that has a deep effect on so many lives and we can't choose when it invades our life, but we can choose how to respond when it does. I wanted to find a way to fight. Something like Texas 4000 is so much bigger than just a bike ride and it affords us the opportunity to touch lives and make an impact on the fight against cancer in a profound way.

I ride for the pillars of Texas 4000: HOPE, KNOWLEDGE, CHARITY. I ride for Hope, that those people we meet as we plan the ride and on the way to Alaska might be given a little more courage during their fight. I ride for Knowledge, that we might be able to reach a new level of awareness to live longer and healthier lives. I ride for Charity, so that I can take my good health and youth and put it towards a much greater cause.

I ride for a cancer free future.
