Holaaa! My name is Maria Pedroza (aka Mafe), and I am a senior pursuing a double major in economics and accounting. I'm from Bogota, Colombia. After I graduated high school, I came to the states to get my bachelors degree. I enjoy travelling, cooking, and hanging out with friends :)

Why I Ride

I ride for my dad, Carlos Pedroza. In his early 30’s, my dad was diagnosed with breast cancer. When my dad received the news, he was dating my mom and was planning a future with her. His dreams fell apart. After the diagnosis, my dad started a very aggressive chemotherapy treatment complemented with radiotherapy. The treatment was so strong that the doctors told my parents they wouldn’t be able to have children. In fact, the doctors were not sure if my dad was going to win his battle with cancer. After many years of uncertainty, wondering if he was stronger than cancer, if every sunset was going to be his last one, my dad beat cancer. Now, it is my responsibility to share his story. I think my family’s experience makes me a symbol of hope for those fighting cancer and their loved ones. Also, I want this ride to be a display of appreciation to my dad for all the sacrifices he has done for my sister and me.
