About:

I was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but I’ve lived in Sugar Land, Texas for the majority of my life. Music and movies take up the majority of my free time. I play the cello and the guitar, and I have Coldplay and Nine Inch Nails lined up together on my playlist. I love scary movies, but they’re only good if I can’t sleep for two or three nights. I am majoring in Finance and Radio-Television-Film. My university experience so far has been defined by joining Texas Crew. Waking up early in the morning and rowing boats has taught me more about team building and the importance of hard work than any class could. I figure that since I only have one life to live, I might as well treat it like a thrill ride. I’ll try anything once: roller coasters, sky diving (I’m scared of heights), food (I’m talking chicken brain and sheep intestine), or scuba diving. I’m always trying to push my boundaries. My life goal has always been to leave the world a little better than I found it.

Why I Ride

Cancer is one of humanity’s biggest threats. So far, I have been lucky enough that cancer has not drastically changed my life. Others, however, have not been as lucky. My grandfather died of cancer before I was born. The repercussions of his death were years of hardship for his family. I have seen the grief that my mother and my grandmother feel. My dad’s father also died of cancer. He left behind a wife and five children. My dad’s eldest brother was forced to take care of his entire family by taking a job and being the sole provider for five other people. I can only imagine the pain, sorrow, and hardship that they went through with the loss of their parents. I may not be able to fight cancer in the laboratory, but that does not mean I can’t make a difference. By raising awareness and money, I can attack cancer at its core.
