About:

I am Rita Nehme, a graduate student from Lebanon at the University of Texas at Austin. I grew up my whole life there where I was raised by the most amazing parents Abdo and Salam, two architects. I am the oldest of four sisters. My sisters are the most incredible human beings I ever got to know, each one of them is special in her own way. My family is the biggest, utmost blessing in my life.
I did my undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering, driven by my love for science and the diversity of the major. I am doing now my masters in Geochemistry and Geology at the University of Texas at Austin. And I am so proud and blessed to be here now after a really long road and lots of ups and downs.

Why I Ride

After some things I have been through, I really learned that if you really want something from all your heart and if you really work towards it with all your power, keeping faith, you will achieve whatever you want. This is why I believe that all the energy and work we are putting, the researchers are putting, the doctors, the patients, the fighters, and all the faith and hope we have in each other and in what we are doing, everyone in his own way, will help improve the life of cancer fighters, improve treatment, understand the disease, and find a cure.
I ride for every person who had to watch their mom, dad, little sister, little brother, aunt, uncle, grandparent, friend suffer, that had to watch the body of their old grandfather or grandmother handle more pain than anyone can. I ride to the parents who had to hear the news that their 4 years old child will have to go through chemotherapy; I ride for my friends who fought so hard against this disease and for the ones who are fighting. Cancer is unfair. I ride because everyone has the right not to be scared, to feel safe, and to do big plans for himself and his life without being threatened and scared. I ride for my grandfathers Badri Bitar Nehme and Alfred El Kareh. I ride for my teachers Nada Mousalli and Josette Dagher.
I ride for all the warriors out there, past and present, and hopefully not future.
