About:
Hey there!
My name is Amberlee Adams and I am a Senior at the Red McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. I am currently pursuing a degree in Business Management.
I was originally a Californian native, but now proudly reside in the great state of Texas. Just so you know, I consider myself a Texan since I own a pair of boots. But I’m horrible at country dancing – any dancing for that matter… But the boots is what makes someone Texan, right?
Texas is where I found my home and my purpose. The distance between my out-of-state siblings and I has only amplified our bond and brought us closer together as brothers and sisters. As for my mother and I, we have become extremely close. Like any 20-something year old, I have come to realize that my mother is my Mr. Miyagi, her years of experience in this world and her advice is spot on 99% of the time – even though I only follow her advice about 50% of the time. But, she is my rock. She is the woman I can count on and lean on for anything and everything. I’m so grateful to call her my mother.
Texas is also where I found a second family and passion in life. Working at Mancahca Fire/Rescue, I have met the most selfless and caring people, who will do anything for their fellow brothers and sisters in the fire service. The guys at Manchaca Fire/Rescue have countlessly played the role of my big brothers – since my brother was away in the military for the past few years.
Day by day, I am learning that the world is so much bigger than just what I could ever imagine… and I want to be able to experience all that I can. Learn from everyone that I can.
So, let me learn from you! Contact me and share your story with me! Or just contact me to talk! Either way I can't wait to hear from you!
Yours in the fight,
Amberlee
Why I Ride
I ride for mom and her strength.
I ride for my dad. He is the epitome of someone who works too hard and way too much. He's runs a franchise with my step-mom... But, even saying he simply "runs" the business does not justify the amount of time and effort he pours into it. Let's try: he lives at his business… that statement justifies his work ethic a little bit better.
He was diagnosed with cancer last fall of 2013. However, he would not give up working. Between his treatments and doctor visits, he drove himself to find the energy to go to work and continue to have the same driven work ethic he had before he got sick.
He is strong. He won't let anything stop him from his goals. He beat cancer and I know that he is too stubborn and driven to ever let it prevent him from accomplishing the things he wants in life.
I ride for my step-mom, Cindy, who won against her long battle with breast cancer. Her strength to continue to work through her treatments, transition to a healthier lifestyle, and brave the loss of her hair was, just, admirable.
I ride for my grandma, who is undertaking health issues of her own. I ride for Pablo’s cousin, Sarah Neal, who fought Ewing’s Sarcoma. I ride for my teammates and their family and friends that have been affected by cancer. I ride for the past, present, and future fighters of cancer. I ride for you.
