I'm the eldest daughter to William and Theresa Neville and the proud older sister of Mary Alice Neville. I grew up in Houston, Midland, and Tomball, TX. I played flute/piccolo for 6 years in concert and marching band, and was an exchange student to Germany for 11 months as a junior in high school. Wunderbar!
I currently live in Austin with my cat Morpheus, and am a senior in the Government and LAH programme at UT. I also have a rockin' job at the admissions office!
When people ask me what I do when I graduate, I say, 'I'm going to ride across the contintent to fight cancer, that's what!'. When they ask me, 'Well, what about after that?', I answer, 'Keep on trying to change the world.'
If you had told me five years ago that I was going to ride my bike 4,600 miles, I wouldn't have believed you, because five years ago, I was fifty pounds heavier and borderline obese. I had always struggled with my weight, and finally one day I realised that everyone is allotted the same amount of time in a day. Some use that time to change everything about their lives, some use that time to change the world, and some sit around and let life pass them by. I was letting life pass me by and putting myself at risk for cancer and other weight-related problems. So one day during my senior year of high school, I decided to change my life, and last spring, I was given the privilege of changing the world.
T4K for life.
Personal Statement
Look to the person on your left, and now to the person on your right. Statistically speaking, one of you will get cancer. Everyone knows someone who's had cancer, and most people have lost someone to it. Cancer is terrifying. It is invasive, destructive, merciless, persistent. And it's time to take a stand.
One of my favourite quotes is: "To die for a cause makes you noble, but to live for one makes you mighty." I want to live mightily, to fight like hell, to prevent, to save, to conquer. It's not enough anymore to eat my fiber, work out regularly, and wear sunblock. I'm tired of just looking out for myself. I want to start fighting for someone else. I want to fight for your mother, your cousin, your family friend, for you.
Give up now, cancer. T4K's here.
FOR WHOM I RIDE:
I ride for those who have no one to ride for them, for those who fight alone. This one's for you.
I also ride for Ken Neville, uncle and my father's best friend, who lost a brave fight to kidney cancer 14 years ago. This one's for you, too.
