Biography
Former president of UT Cycling, part-time UPSer. I was born in Virginia, and grew up in Bay City, Texas. I love cycling, and I love volunteering. I jumped at the chance to go on this ride. I'm part of the conditioning committee aimed at getting everyone in shape for the ride. This will be a large burden on all of us as we go to school/work and raise money, while physically and mentally preparing for the biggest challenge of our lives. I am here to support everyone through thick and thin. We're all excited about the possibilities this trip promises, not only for us, but by all of the communities we will travel through as we bring a message of hope and awareness.
Personal Statement
Everyone has a story. Too many people have lost friends or relatives to cancer. Luckily, I don't. Luckily, the tumor on my mom's left arm was benign. You always think about the possibilities, and wonder what you would have done. The thought of my mom, or any of my loved ones for that matter, having cancer is scary. Even scarier is the possibility that it still could happen. I'm lucky, but I realize that others haven't been as fortunate. People I know have moving stories, that will make you weep with them as they recount memories. I don't want anyone to have to go through that, so I will help them fight. 4500 miles? No problem. I have little reason to believe I won't make it. Who could I help save? Another young man diagnosed with testicular cancer? Shunned from teams, even after he recovered? Finally someone gave him a chance, and he turned it into legend. Five consecutive Tour de France victories, only matched by Miguel Indurain. Could I help another person decide to undertake a similar project to help fight cancer by riding 4500 miles to Florida? Amazing people have been diagnosed, and have overcome it. Why should I turn a blind eye?
