4,000-mile bike ride ends in Anchorage

College students from Texas rolled into Anchorage today, completing a 4,000-mile trek on their bicycles.
The Texas 4,000 team is made up of 79 students raising money for cancer research.

The group spent 70 days in the saddle, biking between 45 and 120 miles each day.

The trek started 11 years ago when a cancer survivor wanted to do something to raise money. Every year, students carry on the tradition.

“Throughout an 18-month process, we train, fundraise, volunteer, all for the end goal of raising money that all goes to cancer research,” said assistant ride director Seth Snyder. “And right now, a few days ago, we hit our $600,000 goal.”

Many of the students on the Texas 4,000 team have been touched by cancer. They say it’s been an amazing experience to raise awareness and money to fight the disease.
