About:

I was born and raised in the small town of Mission, TX. I’m the youngest of three girls, and have always looked up to my older sisters. At a young age, I took interest in athletics- swimming and soccer, in particular. Throughout elementary, middle school, and then eventually high school, I participated in such sport teams, and also joined the cheerleading squad (an organization that I joined in order to have some bonding time with my sister who was also on the squad). College has been an amazing experience and I have appreciated the opportunity to go out, live on my own, and find myself- who I am and what I would like to do in life. Meeting so many new people, experiencing new cultures and customs, and of course, visiting Lake Austin for some good kayaking has made me really enjoy my time here in Austin. But, I will never forget where I come from- growing up in a community at the Mexican border, and myself having family in Mexico, I have seen the extreme hardships many others face, and I know how fortunate I am to be leading the life that I do. My goal in life is to help those less fortunate than myself. I am currently a second year Cell and Molecular Biology major, and in a few years, I hope to attend medical school to become an oncologist.

Why I Ride

Cancer is the most horrific disease known to man. It brings fear to all people and a sense of hopelessness. I have personally felt the horrors of cancer. A friend of mine died of leukemia at the young age of only 18. And only a few years later, I lost my grandfather to melanoma. I can tell you from first-hand experience that cancer destroys the lives of not only its victims but of their family and friends. That is why I believe it is so important to catch cancer at its earliest symptoms and fight it. People must take a stand and let it be known to the world that we as a population can fight this disease. We can overcome it. We can win. I am dedicated to raising money and awareness to combat this epidemic.

I dedicate my ride in memory of Joe Escobedo, and Carlos Austin. Also, in honor of Jonathan Luna, Greg Danielson, Pam Sommers, and Elva Rodriguez.
