About:

I was born in Yueyang, a small beautiful town in Southern China. In 2007, I came to the University of Texas at Austin as a graduate student in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Though fascinating with fantastic and mysterious optical and physical experiments, I am full of energy as long as I breathe the first fresh air for the outdoor activities, such as basketball, ping pong, swimming as well as recreational hiking and camping.

Even though I am the only child in my family, I am independent and always have a clear future plan in my heart. After studying in the field of optics for almost six years, I made up my mind to continue exploring this area. After graduating as a Master of Science in Engineering in this May, I will pursue my Ph.D. degree in ECE department!

Why I Ride

As one of the most severe diseases in the world, cancer is the dreadful killer and takes off millions people’s lives in China. Fighting against cancer is the battle which needs the cooperation of the entire human race. Though there are some exciting achievements on the aspect of determining the originality of cancer and developing the new medicine treatment, cancer is still incurable at our current ability.

Texas 4000 offers me a great opportunity to contribute my own effort. First of all, the ride will draw more public attention and social care to cancer patients. What is more, through this ride, I will be able to accumulate funds for the medical research and development. Moreover, I can use this ride to present my undefeatable perseverance, a warm heart, and most important, an inextinguishable hope from Texas to Alaska, which will encourage the cancer patient to fight against it! Finally, as a student from the country which has the largest population of cancer patients, this ride has a more special meaning to me. Even though my contribution may be only like a shimmering light, I believe my effort will help light the hope, reflecting the brilliant future!

I RIDE FOR ALL CANCER PATIENTS IN CHINA!

Having the largest population of cancer patient in the world, the development of cancer treatment will be no doubt benefit for China. When I was in China, sometimes, my parents will tell me one of their colleagues passed away because of cancer. I was totally shocked because some of them had a dinner with me just few months before their death.

What is more, my former English teacher in my middle school was suffered by the breast cancer for a long time, and finally had to remove the tumor. This gives her both physical and mental suffer and stress. I still remembered when my classmates and I visited her in the hospital, none of us believed that who we stood in front of us-skinny, depressed-is our teacher.

In China, there are millions of people who have the same situation as them. If we can cure cancer, none of them will need to experience this suffering and definitely the world will be full of more smiles and happiness, and less tears and sadness.
