About:
Hi, I'm Mary Carmen Aviles. I was raised all around but I will forever claim my favorite place in the world, Austin, TX as my hometown. My parents, my heros- were migrant workers so I've seen life (the high's, the low's, the middles) which is primarily and most utterly the reason why I am so optimistic. I am the youngest of 5, in a loving family of 7. My family has always been my ultimate support and my greatest source of advice. Anything and everything I am is because of them.
I am intrigued by science; I absolutely love it so majoring in Biochemistry/ Pre-Med at The University of Texas at Austin makes school interesting. I learn about myself through challenges. Being in the process of joining the USMC to become an officer is currently my all-time high. My biggest strength (as described by my sister) is finding a solution to every problem. If there is no solution I will do whatever is in my power to contribute to finding the solution or to preventing it.
Why I Ride
I walked in to find her completely bald and bruised all over. I never really knew from first-hand experience the impact cancer has on a person and their surroundings. I couldn’t help but to admire how she giggled and made jokes about everything with the biggest brightest smile. “Smile and the force will be with you,” was her favorite and she practiced it as much as she preached it. I ride for a girl. A girl, who was filled with dreams, smiles and hopes. A girl who sang like the angels, who had tons of best friends. I ride for an angel now resting in paradise, Claudia Garcia. I ride for Claudia because she fought cancer; she fought until she left her impact. For over a year, she fought like a warrior. It takes a lot of courage and strength to fight and she had it, I ride for her, for her Family, for her friends, for those who can't ride for her; I RIDE FOR HOPE.
I ride for my best friend's mother, Nina Barrientez a strong survivor of colon cancer. And last but not least, I ride for my mother who had pre cancerous cells in her uterus and for the doctors who made her aware of it. I ride for the power of knowledge, because without it, I would not have been fortunate enough to meet Ms. Nina and would not be fortunate enough to still have my mother. And I ride to further cancer research and one day find a cure for this terrible disease. I RIDE FOR A CURE and I RIDE FOR KNOWLEDGE.
I ride for every single person who is selfless. I ride because there's people who are willing to give up some time for the benefit of others. I ride for the fallen and for the risen. I ride for those who can't and for those who can and do. I RIDE FOR CHARITY.
