About: Hey everybody and welcome to my T4K Page!

My name is Kara Adkins and I was born and raised in Dallas, TX where family, friends, and Tex Mex have always been close to my heart. A few of my favorite things in life include traveling, writing, running, my dog Zoey and of course UT.

My freshman year of college I attended The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Al. Although it was great winning a National Championship, I decided to move back to my home state for the remainder of my college career and attend the best school in the nation, The University of Texas.

As a transfer trying to find things to get involved in, T4K stood out to me because it is not just a club or organization, it is something bigger than me; bigger than all of us. It inspires others and spreads hope and knowledge to everybody who encounters it.

I am honored to represent such a powerful community of cancer fighters and help contribute to the fight starting in May of 2015.

Why I Ride

I want to dedicate each mile of my ride to the children who have lost a parent because of cancer. I have been fortunate to have both a mother and father in my life that constantly inspire me to work harder, reach further, and push past limits. There are thousands upon thousands of children and teenagers out there who have known this exact kind of love until cancer stole it from them.

I am riding so that someday no child will have to hold the hand of their dying mother at the hospital. I ride for the child who believes their Dad is superman until the Kryptonite of Cancer takes his life. I ride for the children who are forced to grow up too fast and take on responsibilities no child should have to uphold. These children's strength and positivity in the face of adversity is what inspires me and pushes me to make the 4,500 mile ride.

I will never know what the future holds, but I hope that with programs such as Texas 4000 children can have a mother who is there to braid their hair, drive them to soccer, and help them set up lemonade stands every summer. I hope children have a father who is there to give them piggy back rides, teach them how to ride a bike and grill the boys who ask their daughters on dates. I ride for the future of cancer research and everybody who has been, is, or will be affected by cancer.
