Why I Ride

Hi everyone!
I wanted to take a moment to share something deeply meaningful and important to me. I am thrilled to be part of an incredible journey that has the power to change lives and create a lasting impact. I am writing to you today as a member of the Texas 4000 team, a cancer-fighting organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those affected by this relentless disease. Next summer, I will be embarking on a challenging yet rewarding adventure – a 4500+ mile-bicycle journey from Austin, TX to Anchorage, Alaska. This inspiring adventure isn't just about the miles we'll cover, but the lives we'll touch and the hope we'll spread. I am committed to raising funds that will contribute to the fight against cancer, a cause that has struck close to my heart.

As you may know, I am a junior at UT Austin, pursuing a degree in Management Information Systems at McCombs School of Business. In addition to my studies, I am also double majoring in Health & Society and minoring in Chinese. My passion lies in bridging the gap between technology and healthcare. I aspire to become a physician specialized in advancing generative AI in medicine, striving to bring innovative solutions to the forefront of cancer treatment and care. In my free time, I find joy in the simple pleasures of life: exploring Austin with my friends and spending time with my ADORABLE cat, Stella, as well as my two dogs, Willow and Eevee.

However, life's journey has also introduced me to the harsh realities of cancer. My childhood friend lost their battle to leukemia, a heart-wrenching experience that left an indelible mark on my soul. More recently, I witnessed the devastating impact of cancer as my best friend's mother succumbed to lymphoma just three months ago. These losses have fueled my determination to make a meaningful difference.

I am riding not only for my dear friend and my best friend's mom, but for everyone whose stories often go unheard, and for those who are losing hope in the face of this relentless adversary. I am riding for individuals who have been unjustly affected by the inequalities of our healthcare system, stemming from factors such as socioeconomic status, geographic location, gender, and race.

I want you to know that every contribution, no matter how small, plays an integral role in this mission. Your support will directly impact the lives of those battling cancer and help us move one step closer to a world free from its grasp. Your generosity can provide hope, comfort, and the resources needed to continue the fight.

Please consider making a donation to support my journey with Texas 4000. Together, we can make a difference and offer a beacon of hope to those who need it most. If you would like, I am more than willing to ride in honor of your loved one. Feel free to reach out to me if you'd like to discuss this further or simply share a conversation:)

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and for your consideration. Your support means the world to me, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have you by my side on this incredible journey.

To Alaska and back <3,

Jasmine Tandon
